Sanitary Ware Designed by Gio Ponti for Ideal Standard
By stripping the fixtures of their architectural "clothing"—the column that pretends to support the washbasin, the raised collars that surround the edges—one arrives at the true form, as Ponti stated in 1955.
However, he had already done so in 1936 with the Osva fixtures for Montecatini. Here, the washbasin column is merely a casing that conceals rather than supports. The washbasin itself, smooth and free of reliefs, has a trapezoidal shape that facilitates arm movement while washing.
