By stripping the fixtures of their architectural “clothing” — the pedestal pretending to support the basin, the raised collars outlining the profiles — one arrives at the true form, Ponti said in 1955. Yet he had already done so in 1936 with the Osva line for Montecatini. In this design, the pedestal is a simple shell that conceals rather than supports. The basin, smooth and unadorned, takes on a trapezoidal shape that naturally accommodates the movement of the arms while washing.
